Flat Rock Michigan may be a small town, but it's full of great things to do. Whether you want to enjoy a scenic river walk, the roaring engines of stock car racing, or a night at the symphony Flat Rock can accomodate. If you live in Flat Rock or are visiting soon here are a few things you should consider:
Flat Rock Community Center
The Flat Rock Community Center is a state of the art recreation center. Built in 2002 it is full of fun (and healthy) things to do.
There is an full-size lap pool for serious exercise and a water slide and wading play-area for the little ones. If you want to play a pick-up game of basketball, keep up you running mileage during the winter, or do some heavy weight-lifting all can be accomodated at the Flat Rock Recreation Center.
However, fitness is not the only focus of the Community Center. This facility has an enormous banquet facility ready to host the largest wedding party or company event. In addition, there are meeting and party rooms available for your smaller gatherings--business meetings, seminars, civic organizations, and birthday parties. If you're a senior join your friends in front of the fireplace for a game of cards or backgammon in the senior-only lounge.
Huroc Park
Not every community is lucky enough to share a riverfront with one of the most scenic (and amazing steelhead fishing) rivers in Southeast Michigan. Huroc Park is an amazing recreation area with a large track, playgrounds, basketball courts, and easy access to the Huron River for fishing or feeding the ducks.
And if Trains are your thing, you're in even more luck. The Train Museum is right next to the park and can introduce you to the regions long and colorful history with the railroad.
Flat Rock High School Sports
Like most small towns, much of our fun centers around High School sports. The Flat Rock Rams boast some of the best teams in the Downriver area. The Flat Rock High School football, basketball, baseball, and volleyball teams are consistently contenders in the Huron Valley Conference. In addition, Flat Rock High School is making serious moves in building other powerhouse programs in track and field, soccer, wrestling, and even competitive bowling.
So, if you are looking for a great family night you don't have to look much further than the Flat Rock High School Stadium or Gym.
Flat Rock Speedway
On the outskirts of Flat Rock, the roar of engines and the smell of burning rubber ignite the senses of race fans every Saturday night in the summer. The Flat Rock Speedway has a rich history of showcase upcoming NASCAR talent and hosting some pretty exotic racing.
FLat Rock Raceway has one of only two figure-eight tracks in the nation. You want excitement? Watch race cars go full-throttle on a crisscross track. You get to see that action every Saturday, but if you want real novelty show up for the school bus races or boat trailer races--fun, fun, fun--and a few crashes!
Southern Great Lakes Symphony
Now to settle down for some real sophistication and culture. Flat Rock boast one of the best and most award-winning symphonies in Michigan. Our Southern Great Lakes Symphony has the top conductor in Michigan and puts one a broad range of concerts, from the contemporary to the classical.
There really is no reason to be sitting at home. Flat Rock offers a great destination for you or your family to enjoy a variety of activities. Regardless of your pleasure--the scenic outdoors, rigorous fitness, exilihirating racing, or a classical symphony--you can find it in Flat Rock.
